Pit Bulls are considered a vicious breed by many. This is mostly due to the cruel humans who have used them in dog fighting over the years. There were also many headings in newspapers how Pit Bulls attacked or mauled young children to death., writes moneysavingbasics.
However, the truth is that these canines can be as loving and as friendly as any other breed out there. We just need to give them the chance to prove everyone wrong.
Luckily, one female Pit Bull that goes by the name Kiah is doing exactly that.
When she was spotted wandering around the streets with a blooded head, authorities managed to track her owner down and charge him with animal cruelty. It was then that Kiah became a resident of the Kirby Animal Shelter in Texas. The staff there knew the dog was way too intelligent and friendly to be left there, so they first tried to find her a forever home, but as time passed by, they realized she could make a great police dog.
Soon after, Kiah joined the Universal K9 program where she impressed everyone. She was very vibrant, sociable, and easy to train.
Now, after she’s undergone the training, Kiah became the first Pit Bull police dog in the state of New York. She’s currently working as a Rookie K9 Sniffer Dog at the Poughkeepsie Police Department.
Kiah’s handler, Officer Justin Bruzgul, says “(If the dog has) the energy to use her nose and want to please her handler and do that working job, it doesn’t matter what breed it is.”
When she’s not fighting criminals, Kiah is fighting stereotypes about her breed.
The Kirby Animal Shelter wrote on Facebook, “So proud of our Kiah! She [is] setting the bar high by proving that pit bulls can make our neighborhoods safer, not more dangerous… Way to go Kiah!”
