Imagine living your life with a nose full of maggots, the inability to urinate, and feces all over your thick fur coat. That’s exactly how a four-year-old Great Pyrenees dog lived until police intervened, writes ilovemydogsomuch
In the Hudson Valley area of New York, the Putnam County Dog Control officer found the animal running free, as he had many times in the past. Because the pooch was in such a severe state of neglect, he drove to Carmel Animal Hospital for assistance.
Large thick mats appeared all over the dog’s fur, thus constricting the ability of the dog to pass urine. His nails were incredibly overgrown and curling under towards his paws. Maggots were crawling out of his snout area from the unsanitary conditions in which it lived.
As a result, Putnam County SPCA officers arrested 30-year-old Omer Fahim for animal cruelty and neglect.
The dog was treated, groomed, and receiving veterinary care. He will be placed with a Great Pyrenees rescue group once his vet care is completed.
We are grateful for the officer who stepped up to help this animal in need.
